kingless kingdom…

we were very pleased to be called upon once again by David Shillinglaw and Cement Gallery to create an edition of prints to accompany his “All You’ll Ever Need” show which opened on the 25th August at the East Gallery Brick Lane

the print ‘kingless kingdom’ was a one colour job on Fabriano Accedemia 220gsm paper, edition of 100, 500 x 700 mm, as ever with David’s work the key was all about keeping the very fine hair-line detail of the original drawing… Continue reading

who the f**k is Alice?

“I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date!” Apologies for the late blog post- a couple of weeks after the actual launch- but it seems in keeping with the white rabbit. So here it is- the latest release from Eelus and the latest print from the up-the-arts studio.

Eelus was commissioned by those nice guys across the pond at Dark Hall Mansions, to produce their first in a series of Fairy Tale inspired works. Keep an eye on them for more collaborations with other artists in the near future.

The artist says: “Recreating a classic scene from a story so rich in imagination with so many instantly recognisable moments to choose from has been a lot of fun. The story of a little girl called Alice who followed a white rabbit into a fantasy world of madness has been inspiring artists for decades and I’m happy to add myself to that list with this piece.”

And of course we were quite happy to print this piece, even though it was quite a meaty edition of 200 5 colour prints and a very special limited edition of 15 in a different colour way.

So the all important spec.- 200 of 5 colour hand pulled screenprints on Somerset satin 4 deckled edge 3oogsm stock, and the 15 specials to the same spec. The specials have long since sold out, however you might still be in luck for the regular edition, however – don’t hang around!… at a very reasonable £100 these won’t be around for ever. Try here for stock availability and follow Dark Hall Mansion on Twitter here to keep an eye out for future releases and news.

swingers…(no strings attached fun)

The latest edition of prints to feature on the rack is this cheeky little number from Tina 2-Plates.

Tina is new to the stable – she’s a successful textile designer by trade, you’ve probably got one of her patterned frocks in your wardrobe, I’m wearing one now! watch this space though… Continue reading

what happened next…Kerry Roper

We first printed for Kerry at the end of 2009, creating the striking edition of prints titled ‘Time Waits for No Man’, edition of 69, 3 colour screenprints on A2 300gsm acid-free, cotton rag.

Each print was hand finished by Kerry who popped into the studio armed with a selection of mark-making tools, and proceeded to loosely yet precisely etch a scribble onto each print… Continue reading

the devil’s in the detail

When asked by Cement Gallery to realise this stunning yet complex design for sickeningly talented artist David Shillinglaw, there was an audible ‘gulp’ in the studio! The design is extremely intricate with loads of fine detail, and had the potential to be quite an ambitious project!

But we love a challenge, so the contact lenses were dusted off and we set to work… Continue reading

mysterious ill-ness

we are very proud to have been called upon by Mysterious Al to do an edition of super-sick screenprints in 2 colourways.

we really wanted to pull out all the stops with this one, so used special solvent based ink, Pantone colour-matching system, matt/gloss combo, and had a bespoke embossing stamp made for the Mysterious one! Continue reading

bags to riches

Recently here at up-the-arts we were called upon to print some tote bags, tea towels and cloth tags for Vanessa Galvin.

So we did, and for a day or so the studio resembled an explosion in a haberdashery… Continue reading

he’s got the whole world in his…trolley

Another resident on the rack this week was this edition of 10, 3 colour A1 prints by Eyejack.

As soon as we know more about the artist and the print we’ll share it with you. Until then, if you are interested in getting your hands on one of these please contact us at info@up-the-arts.com and check on availability.

what happened next… Biff R.toot D.toot

Remember the iconic R.Toot D.Toot image by Biff, it came out in 3 colour ways, the first pink edition was released in 2007, 2008 the green (flip) edition and then finally the red in 2009…

all sold out pretty quick (apart from a few red that we still have), and we’ve seen them being bought in bulk from us and flipped in various places, for rather silly money.

More recently we’ve seen a lot of them turning up at the Drewatts auction… Continue reading
